Csaba wins Casino Barcelona

by ChessBase
11/1/2013 – Balog Csaba crowned himself as the winner of the 18th edition of Casino Barcelona as he finished the tournament with 2.5/3, allowing him a +2 score and enough to be half a point ahead of any competitor. A series of people followed at 4.0/7, Hansen, Edouard and Narciso. The short tournament was full of exciting and lively chess. Impressions and games.

The 2013 edition of the round robin tournament Casino Barcelona is underway in Spain. The tournament is orgnaized by the Catalonian Chess FEderation and it is held at and sponsored by the Casino Barcelona. The players were reminded before the start of round one to bring their ID that would prove that they are over 18, the legal gambling age in Spain.

Barcelona. A metropolis full of culture, but lets not forget its beautiful beaches.

At the midpoint there was no clear winner in sight. Hansen and Narciso lead with 2.5/4 but it was a tenuous advantage as many people followed them only half a point behind. One of these suitors, Balgoh Csaba, had a fantastic run in his last three game scoring 2.5/3 and securing himself first place.

Ftacnik gave a series of lectures that were enjoyed by the public, but his results in the tournament were not the best

Lopez Martinez's bright point of the tournament was his attacking victory against Hansen, which was his only win

Narciso (left) had a solid showing with 4.0/7 and a tie for second place

The tournament winner didn't position himself so until he won back to back games in rounds five and six
