
This year the Chinese Chess Federation hosts the match that takes
place from 14. to 20. July in Yinzhou, a precinct of Ningbo.

The event started on Wednesday with a blitz-match, which the Chinese men won 26-24. The Chinese women were a bit more dominant and won 28-22. With 6.0 points each Lu Shanglei and Yu Yangyi were the most successful players in blitz. Vladimir Fedoseev and Daniil Dubov followed with 5.5 points.

The Match (Men)
After three of five rounds Russia trails by 6-9. China narrowly won the first match while the second was drawn after Peter Svidler managed to win with Black against Wei Yi. But in the third round China (and Wei Yi who won with Black against Nikita Vitiugov) took revenge and won 3.5-1.5.

The Match (Women)
In the women's match the Russians are favorites. After all, the Russian Federation sent its A-team whereas China is playing without its best players. The Russian team indeed won the first round but rounds two and three saw no winner. Russia leads by 8-7.
