The winner of the match Kasparov vs Ponomariov is to face the winner of a match between Vladimir Kramnik of Russia, the Classical World Champion, and Hungarian challenger Peter Leko. A date for that competition has not been announced.

Asked when and where a match between leading grandmasters Peter Leko of Hungary and Vladimir Kramnik of Russia could be held, FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said this would likely to become known at the upcoming FIDE Presidential Council meeting in Bucharest, to which representatives of both players have been invited.

The unifying match between the winners of the Kasparov-Ponomaryov and Leko-Kramnik matches would probably take place in Buenos Aires or New York in November, Ilyumzhinov said.
