12/30/2018 – The 2018 World Blitz Championship took place December 29th and 30th in St. Petersburg Russia, with live commentary by GMs Peter Leko and Evgeny Miroshnichenko. Magnus Carlsen defended his 2017 Blitz title. Kateryna Lagno won the Women's tournament. Both Carlsen and Lagno undefeated!

Magnus Carlsen (Norway) defended his title of the world's strongest blitz player by dominating the championship with 17/21. Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland) finished second with 16½ points. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) took third with 14½ points.

Kateryna Lagno (Russia) won the Women's Section and repeated her success of 2010. She collected 13½ points. Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (Iran) won the silver with 13 points. Lei Tingjie (China) got the bronze with 12½ points.

"King Salman World Chess Championships" 

The 2018 King Salman FIDE World Blitz Championship is taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia from December 29th to 30th. The format is a 21-round Swiss open with a prize fund of USD $350,000, and $60,000 for 1st place.

The time control is 3 minutes per player for the entire game plus 2-seconds per move starting from move 1.
