The World Championship 2007 will take place from September 12 to 30 in the Sheraton Centro Histórico Hotel in Mexico City. Eight players are qualified – the tournament will be a double round robin. The prize fund is US $1.3 million.
Until today the players have been staying in different hotels in Mexico City, most in the excellent Holiday Inn where, we are told, the food is great and you have free Internet connection 24/7. Some arrived over a week ago to acclimatize – after all Mexico is located at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,349 feet), and is between seven and nine hours behind the time zone most players live in.
On Monday the players are scheduled to move into the Sheraton, where the games are being staged. At 13:30 local time (1:30 p.m., which translates to 20:30 CEST, 22:30 Moscow) there is a press conference scheduled, with all eight players. The organisers have told us they intend to broadcast the press conference on the official site. You can check the exact time of the press conference in your location in this chart.
Addendum: we have been informed (Monday morning Mexican time) that a live broadcast, as originally envisioned, may not be possible. However, even if it is not broadcast, we will have access to the contents of the press conference and will bring you a report as soon as possible.
