Allan Stig Rasmussen wins Danish Championship

10/25/2021 – The Danish Championship, played in Svendborg on the island of Funen, ended on Sunday with the victory of Allan Stig Rasmussen. With a score of 7.0/9 the 37-year-old Grandmaster finished half a point ahead of Sune Berg Hansen and Jesper Søndergård Thybo, who shared second place. As luck would have it, Rasmussen and Hansen faced each other in the last round of the tournament. Hansen had Black and was half a point behind Rasmussen, but he needed to win the game to win the title. He tried to sharpen the game to get winning chances but soon found himself in bad position. However, Rasmussen did not try to win but was content to repeat moves to secure the title.

Before the last round, the 22-year old Jesper Søndergård Thybo, Denmark's number two behind Peter Heine Nielsen, was in third place, but after the draw between Hansen and Rasmussen he had to abandon his hopes for the title. However, with his his last-round win against Jens-Ove Fries-Nielsen he finished on shared second place.
