9/10/2012 – The celebrations at the close of the 40th Chess Olympiad took place after the final round, with the medals going to Armenia, Russia and Ukraine in the Open section, and to Russia, China and Ukraine in the Women's. We have some interesting statistics in the best players in the event – guess who has a 2880 performance in ten games! Well, that's it, the next Olympiad is in Tromsø in 2014.

The 40th Chess Olympiad took place in the Turkish metropole of Istanbul, from August 27 to September 10th, 2012. A record of 158 national chess federations brought teams to Istanbul to participate in this prestigious event, which was staged in the WOW Hotel and Convention Center, just minutes away from the airport.
