101st British Chess Championships in Aberystwyth

7/21/2014 – The Championships, played in many groups, is this year taking place, are taking place, from July 19th to 30th, in the university town of Aberystwyth in West Wales. The defending champion is GM David Howell, who leads the field after two rounds – together with ten other players on 2.0/2 points. The 101st British Chess Championships are taking place 19th to 30th July 2014 in Aberystwyth in West Wales.

Since the late 19th century Aberystwyth has also been a major Welsh educational centre, with the establishment of a university college there in 1872. The town's population is 16,000, with an influx of over 10,000 students during nine months of the year.

The entry fee for the Championship is £200 (£150 U-21), which is free to GMs, IMs, WGMs, WIMs, and half price to FMs and WFMs. This event is open only to exempted or qualified players. There are a number of sections: Senior Championships; Major Open; Under 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16; Rapidplay Open, Weekenders, etc.
