The Bundesliga 2011/12 is underway and is held from October 14th, 2011 to April 15th, 2012. It is a round-robin schveningen tournament in which 16 teams of eight players play each other at the rate of 40 moves in 100 minutes followed 20 moves in 50 minutes and finally 15 minutes for the rest of the game plus a 30-second increment as of move one.

Aside from its singularly strong lineups, including world champions, of particular note in the last two rounds was Anand's participation on behalf of his team OSG Baden Baden, marking possibly his last competitive appearance until his title defense in May. Two rounds are scheduled in mid-April, but it is hard to imagine he will be playing then.
OSG Baden Baden is the heaviest hitting team in the league, and confirmed its favoritism by sporting 2700+ players on six of its eight boards and winning its matches. Anand led with top board, and after an uneventful draw against Anish Giri on Saturday, his game against Eljanov on Sunday, was the highlight of the weekend as both players had clear winning chances at different junctures.
