27th International Open of Cappelle La Grande is currently underway from February 26 to March 5, 2011. It is a nine-round swiss open, played at 40 moves in 90 minutes with 30 seconds added per move, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with a 30-second increment per move.

The traditional open is favored by a strong field including over 50 grandmasters and as expected many players including aspiring juniors come hoping for a norm. The top Elo is Indian GM Krishnan Saskiran with 2690, however the surprise interim leader is 17-year-old Spanish IM Alexander Ipatov (2512) who is on 6.0/7 with a 2774 performance and headed straight for a GM norm. Croatian GM Alojzije Jankovic is also on 6.0/7, and a 2806 performance, only behind by tiebreak by a fraction.
