10/23/2022 – After her first round win, Lilit had a winning position in her second game, but wasn't able to convert it, and drew. The draw against Anna Kubicka felt like a loss, and the IM had to recover quickly, to be prepared for the next round. Everybody knows the feeling after a loss in a tournament. But how to tackle those emotions, which pull you down best? Lilit has some good advice in this third episode.

10/23/2022 – In the third and final instalment of the Chess Artistry Adventure series, we bring you seven more studies, six of them originals, by world-class composers like Arpad Rusz, Amatzia Avni, Michael Pasman, and more. We also briefly discuss the composers and try to understand how they can turn positions from games into original compositions. Like in the previous article, we also have an assortment of flavours here. Some of the studies are concrete and tactical, while others are a bit on the technical side. However, regardless of style, each composition is deeply instructional, and you can be sure to come out wiser as a chess player if you go through them all.

10/22/2022 – The FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship is back with its second edition. The over-the-board final will take place at the Berjaya Natura Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 25-30 October. The 8-player lineup will include defending champion Wesley So, classical chess champion Magnus Carlsen and rapidplay specialist Hikaru Nakamura.

Frederic has written a new book, together with Professor Christian Hesse, with fascinating chess stories from the last 50 years. 10/21/2022 – Jan-Krzysztof Duda won the 2022 Aimchess Rapid online tournament after beating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in what somewhat unexpectedly turned out to be a hard-fought final match. After getting a clear victory in the first set, Duda got a superior position in Friday’s first game. Shakh first managed to turn the tables in that game and then scored 1½ points in the next two encounter to take the match to tiebreaks. Duda won back-to-back blitz games to secure overall victory.

10/20/2022 – Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov reached the final of the Aimchess Rapid online tournament after outscoring Magnus Carlsen and Richard Rapport in Wednesday’s semis, respectively. Duda and Shakh finished first and third in the preliminary stage, and enter the deciding match of the event as much-deserving finalists.

10/19/2022 – Judit Polgar's Global Chess Festival was held in Budapest, Hungary, on the 8th of October this year. Among other things, the current edition of the annual gala hosted a study composing cum exhibition event called Chess Artistry Adventure. The artful program in memory of the late Pal Benko has received fourteen original studies from some of the best composers in the world. In an article we published last month, four of these were explained in detail. Today, as it were, we venture deeper into the forest and tackle some more from the rest of them. What follows is some high-class chess, with difficulty ranging from the guilefully complex to the tortuously analytical—nothing remotely facile, nothing for the faint-hearted!

10/19/2022 – There are periods of quiet in competition and periods of nonstop excitement, and readers have been treated to the latter of late. The Meltwater series now running the Aimchess event with World Champion as well as stars on the rise, has seen great battles left and right. Many of these led to mindboggling endgames which our resident (as in global) expert Karsten Mueller shares a few.

10/19/2022 – Going into Wednesday’s final round, Fabiano Caruana and Irina Krush are sole leaders in the open and women’s sections of the U.S. Championships, respectively. Ray Robson, Leinier Dominguez and Awonder Liang still have chances of catching Caruana in the open, while Jennifer Yu and Thalia Cervantes stand a half point behind Krush and will face each other in the thirteenth round. | Photo: Lennart Ootes

10/19/2022 – Three long-standing elite GMs defeated younger opponents in the quarterfinals of the Aimchess Rapid online tournament, as Magnus Carlsen, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Richard Rapport knocked out Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Gukesh Dommaraju, respectively. The one exception to this rule was Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who got the better of Vidit Gujrathi. By reaching the event’s semifinals, Carlsen secured overall tour victory with one tournament to spare!

It explores topics such as artificial intelligence, technology, history, consciousness, love and power. In the most recent episode of the podcast, Lex Fridman had Hikaru Nakamura as his guest. The American Grandmaster and streamer showed his "Immortal Game" and talked about "the best player of all time", crises and setbacks, Magnus Carlsen, the Hans Niemann case and revealed that for him love is "the most important thing in life".
