Norway Chess: Naka new world number 2, Pragg and Carlsen score

6/2/2024 – For a second round in a row at the Norway Chess event in Stavanger, all three classical games ended decisively. Hikaru Nakamura, Magnus Carlsen and R Praggnanandhaa each grabbed 3 points after beating Ding Liren, Alireza Firouzja and Fabiano Caruana respectively. Polish Championships: Double victory for married couple

6/1/2024 – Radosław Wojtaszek and Alina Kashlinskaya, who are husband and wife, won the 2024 edition of the Polish Championships, in the open and the women’s section respectively. The Indian star now has a 2½-point lead over women’s world champion Ju Wenjun and Anna Muzychuk, who got the better of Humpy Koneru (also in classical chess) in round 4. Chess Olympiad: Rapport will play for Hungary again - Leko too

5/31/2024 – The Hungarian Chess Federation is delighted to have pulled off a coup. For the forthcoming Chess Olympiad in their own country (10-23 September) they have managed to persuade Richard Rapport to return to the Hungarian team from Romania. And they have also managed to re-engage Peter Leko. Hungary, with its long chess history, wants to be among the best!

5/30/2024 – A draw with black in Armageddon allowed R Vaishali to keep the sole lead in the Norway Chess Women tournament. The Indian representative faced Anna Muzychuk in Wednesday’s third round. Standing in sole second place is Ju Wenjun, who signed two draws with black against Pia Cramling, thus grabbing a third Armageddon victory in Stavanger. 5/28/2024 – In the 1971 Candidate Matches Bobby Fischer faced Mark Taimanov In Vancouver, Canada. The American defeated his opponent from the Soviet Union with a "dry" 6-0 score. But matters could have started differently. In the first game it was Taimanov who put on the pressure, and even had winning chances. He played 27.h3, which nobody considered a bad move – until Kasparov pointed out its defect in 2004. Today's riddle deals with the position before White's 27th move. Computers find it devilishly difficult to find the best continuation. Can you?
