UzChess: Yakubboev sole leader after five rounds

6/10/2024 – The UzChess Cup has seen plenty of exciting games in the first five rounds of play. Nodirbek Yakubboev obtained upset wins over Vidit Gujrathi and Parham Maghsoodloo to grab the sole lead with 3½/5 points. Standing a half point back are top seed Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Yu Yangyi and Javokhir Sindarov. 6/9/2024 – Magnus Carlsen won the Norway Chess super-tournament for a sixth time in his career after beating Fabiano Caruana in their final-round Armageddon encounter. Hikaru Nakamura grabbed second place despite losing in the rapid tiebreaker against R Praggnanandhaa. 6/6/2024 – The World Chess Federation has introduced a new qualification route for the Candidates Tournament in the form of the FIDE Circuit. The best player of the Circuit will play in the next Candidates Tournament. Arjun Erigaisi is currently at the top of the list. His victory at the Sharjah Masters allowed him to leapfrog Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who had previously been in the lead.
