A 78-move draw

The match between the two highest-rated German women players, Elisabeth Paehtz and Dinara Wagner, started on Sunday. Wagner got the white pieces.

The district mayor of Dortmund-Huckarde opened the match, not without first mentioning the importance of the event for Huckarde.

I wish you all exciting chess days, Glück auf!

Wagner gained an advantage and had a promising position in the middlegame. Immediately after the game, both players recognised 22.e4? as a mistake that greatly reduced White's advantage.

As a result, Wagner was able to get an endgame with an extra pawn, but Paehtz drew the game very confidently.

A-Open

On the first board, GM Anton Korobov entered a Najdorf theoretical duel with Julian Nöldner. Korobov gradually gained an advantage and finally won in the rook and bishop endgame.

German grandmaster Frederik Svane also won convincingly on the second board, played on the stage of the venue. Meanwhile, GM Luis Quesada made particularly short work of his opponent, winning with Black in a remarkable 21-move win.

All in all, a good day for the participating grandmasters in the A-Open.
