4/1/2024 – FIDE published an updated world ranking list on 1 April. The climber of the month is undoubtedly Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who won the Masters at the Chess Festival in Prague and is now fourth in the world rankings after having gained 15 rating points. Also, joining the top ten is Arjun Erigaisi in ninth place, who earned 8 rating points in March, in Shenzhen and in the Bundesliga.

3/1/2024 – With the top players mainly playing online and freestyle, there has been little change at the top of the rankings. Magnus Carlsen, the current World Champion in Rapid and Blitz, is still the world number one, as he has been since July 2011. Fabiano Caruana follows in second place and is the only other player besides Carlsen with a rating of 2800+.

1/1/2024 – On 1st January FIDE published its new ranking list. Firouzja, who tried hard in the last days of December to gain a few more rating points, has achieved his goal: he has overtaken Wesley So and qualified for the Candidates by rating. Magnus Carlsen is still the clear number one, ahead of Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura in second and third, while Vincent Keymer and Praggnanandhaa are the world's best juniors. Hou Yifan continues to top the women's list and Bibisara Assaubayeva is the world's best female junior.

12/4/2023 – For its December list FIDE has not yet rated the tournaments in St. Louis and Zagreb, so Alireza Firouzja's rating loss is still quite moderate. The 30 Elo-points Hans Niemann gained in the Tournament of Peace in Zagreb do not appear in the list either. But Carlsen remains the clear number one.

11/1/2023 – Magnus Carlsen is still the clear world number one, but his lead over the other world class players has shrunk somewhat, although it's still impressive. World number two Fabiano Caruana is the only player in the top 12 to have gained Elo in the last month, and with a good result in the Grand Swiss Tournament on the Isle of Man he could break the 2800 barrier again. 10/2/2023 – There was little movement at the top of the Top 100 list, as most of the top grandmasters were mostly active only in online chess. Magnus Carlsen remains the world's number one, ahead of Fabiano Caruna, Ding Liren and Hikaru Nakamura.

8/1/2023 – At the beginning of August FIDE published its new rating list. Magnus Carlsen remains the only player with a rating of more than 2800 and is still the clear number one. Hikaru Nakamura follows in second place, five points ahead of world number 3 Fabiano Caruana. Indian juniors Gukesh D. and Praggnanandhaa gained a lot of rating points in July and continue their way to the top.

4/1/2023 – There was only one change in the top ten places in the world rankings in March: Hikaru Nakamura climbed to fifth place after his success in the American Cup. Nakamura now has a 7-point lead over Anish Giri in sixth place. Vincent Keymer has risen from 2699 points to 2700 thanks to two games played in the German Bundesliga and now occupies the 38th place in the world ranking.

3/1/2023 – Some of the top players and top youngsters were active in February, so there was some movement in the world rankings. Among the top players, Levon Aronian recorded the biggest gain; among the top youngsters, it was Gukesh. Ian Nepomniachtchi is the second highest-rated player in the world, albeit still below the 2800-mark. Ranked second and third, Ding Liren and Alireza Firouzja, did not play any rated games in February.

2/1/2023 – At the beginning of February FIDE published the new world ranking list. Magnus Carlsen, who continues to be clear number one, lost a few rating points in Wijk, but increased the Elo gap to Ding Liren, who lost even more rating points in Wijk and is now the world's number three while Ian Nepomniachtchi is number two. Hou Yifan is number one on the women's list and Alireza Firouzja remains the world's best junior though his rivals come closer. Best female junior is Bibisara Assaubayeva.

1/2/2023 – At the beginning of 2023 FIDE published its new ranking list. With a rating of 2859 Magnus Carlsen continues to be clear number one, and apart from Ding Liren he is the only player with a rating of 2800+. 40 players have a rating of 2700+. Hou Yifan remains number one the the women's list, Alireza Firouzja is the best junior and Bibisara Assaubayeva is the new number one on the list of female junior players.

12/2/2022 – There has been little change at the top of the FIDE world rankings. Magnus Carlsen leads ahead of Ding Liren and Ian Nepomniachtchi. The best woman player is Hou Yifan and the best juniors are Alireza Firouzja and Zhu Jiner.
