Yury Dokhoian was born on 26 October 1964. He participated in many USSR Championships and played successfully in international tournaments. Dokhoian’s successes include:
In the 1990/91 season, Yury Dokhoian played in the Bundesliga for Bielefeld; in the seasons 1991/92 to 1994/95, for Bochum. Yury Dokhoian reached his peak performance in 1994 with a rating of 2580. Dokhoian ended his active career as a tournament player in 1995.

For many years, he worked for Garry Kasparov as a trainer and second until Kasparov retired from tournament chess in 2005. From 2006 to 2011, Dokhoian was trainer of the Russian women’s national team and won the gold medal with them at the Women’s Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk. He also coached Tatiana and Nadezhda Kosintseva and helped them to reach top spots in the world ranking. From 2011 to 2015, Yury Dokhoian was coach of the Russian men’s team.
In 2009, Dokhoian began a collaboration with Sergey Karjakin. Dokhoian also coached many other Russian talents, including Andrey Esipenko.
In 2007, FIDE awarded him the title of senior coach.
Yury Dokhoian died of a Covid-19 infection on 1 July 2021 in Moscow. He was 56 years old.
