10/17/2024 – Immediately after the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League, a number of top players, including Anand, Firouzja and Erigaisi, compete in the WR Chess Masters (14-18 October), a knockout tournament with short classical time control. Arjun Erigaisi and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave have reached the finals after knocking out tough opponents in previous rounds. The participants play 2-game matches - and as both games ended in a draw, an Armageddon game will decide the tournament.

The World Rapid Championship, a knockout tournament featuring many top players, is taking place in London from 14 to 18 October.

Sixteen players will compete in mini-matches of two games each, with a time limit of 60 minutes for the first 30 moves, followed by a further 30 minutes for the next 20 moves and a further 30 minutes for the rest of the game.

The competition attracted 271 entries from 54 countries, with participants ranging from professional to young aspiring artists. The contest featured two main categories: AI-generated and traditional artworks. The winners were selected across three age categories.
