Norway Chess 2026 runs from May 25-June 5, 2026, in Oslo, Norway. The event brings two elite tournaments to the same venue: Norway Chess and Norway Chess Women. Both events use the same format, the same playing conditions, and the same prize fund.

The 3rd UzChess Cup 2026 brings one of Central Asia’s strongest classical chess festivals back to Tashkent, Uzbekistan from June 6 to June 16, 2026. The event features four sections and combines elite round-robin groups with a wide-entry Swiss tournament.

The 25th European Women’s Chess Championship 2026 will take place from May 24-June 6, 2026, in Batumi, Georgia. It is a classical 11 round Swiss tournament  and gives qualification places for the FIDE Women’s World Cup. The hotel-based venue gives players accommodation, meals.

The FIDE World Youth U14, U16 & U18 Championships 2026, a flagship international chess tournament under the FIDE calendar, takes place from June 14-27, 2026 in Montesilvano, Italy. The event is an 11-round Swiss championship across six titles.

The 54th Annual World Open (Open through Under 1400 Sections) runs from July 1-5, 2026, in Washington, DC, United States. It stands as one of the best-known summer opens in American chess and brings together titled players, strong experts, ambitious juniors, and deep class fields.

The 2026 Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia brings elite Grand Chess Tour speed chess to Zagreb, Croatia, from June 29 to July 6, 2026. The tournament, which features ten grandmasters in a combined rapid and blitz format. marks the third stop of the 2026 Grand Chess Tour.

The Kasparov Chess Foundation Friendship Festival 2026 brings a flagship summer Open and a one-day Blitz highlight to June 25-30, 2026 in Radenci, Slovenia. You can compete in a 9-round Swiss Open that targets ambitious players who want serious classical chess in a high-profile setting.

Montenegro Open & Mediterranean Open and Women Championships 2026 will take place from July 4 – 11, 2026, in Budva, Montenegro. Players can compete in Open A, Open B, Mediterranean championship categories, youth rapid events, and blitz chess.

5/24/2026 – Demanding weeks for a number of elite grandmasters: Vincent Keymer, Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu get just one day off between their appearance at the GCT event in Bucharest and the start of the super-tournament in Norway. They will once again face a lineup of world-class players, led by world number-one Magnus Carlsen and world champion Gukesh Dommaraju. 5/20/2026 – Xu Xiangyu (pictured) and Yan Tianqi won the 2026 Chinese Chess Championships in Xinghua, both finishing on 8½/11 after obtaining final-round victories. The titles also earned them places in China's teams for the 2026 Chess Olympiad. After 1.d4 d5 many players with White avoid the great amount of theory in the Slav, Semi-Slav, QGA and Orthodox Queen's Gambit and do not therefore play 2.c4. This is not very ambitious, but the painful experience of many chess players has been that the Colle System, the Trompowsky Attack, the Torre Attack and the London System are nevertheless extremely dangerous.
