This year, the "Torneo Magistral Ajedrez de Ciudad de Leon", celebrates its 34th edition. Traditionally, it is a four player knockout rapid tournament.

In 2020, the Corona pandemic forced the tournament to go online and this year it is online again and played on chess.com. With Leinier Dominguez, Boris Gelfand and Women's World Champion Ju Wenjun, three top players meet local grandmaster Jaime Santos.

Parallel to the tournament the organisers offer conferences, seminars and discussions about the role of chess in sport, culture and education.
