Thanks to CBM for the full point

5/7/2009 – We all dream of winning a game thanks to having read an article in CBM. Our reader Peter Graf managed this feat. He enjoyed the instructive vdeo by Andrew Martin in CBM 124 on the subject of 1.d4 g6 2.c4 Bg7 3.Nc3 c5 4.d5 Bxc3+ 5.bxc3 f5 so much that he used the variation in a tournament game - and won.Description of the opening video in CBM 124See Andrew Martin in the video on the Moderne DefenceReader's letter and game from Peter Graf…

Dear Mr Martin,

thanks for your assistance. Last Friday I won a tournament game after studying your video in CBM 124, theme: "modern defence". I enjoyed your clear way of demonstrating Black's plans and possibilities. My opponent started with 1.d4 and I remembered your lesson. After the continuation 1…g6 2.c4 Bg7 3.Nc3 I thought: o.k., that's a sign, let's try it. I answered c5 and, after d5, kicked off the c3. As you said, White had trouble in developing his army. As I had a plan, I was able to get the advantage and win the game. My opponent was rather angry about my choice, but this doesn't matter to me :-) I hope, you continue writing such instructive articles.

Kind regards

Peter Graf
