However, such tournament not only tests the software but also the skills of the user. For instance, in finding an opening book that emphasizes the strengths of the program. In fact, such a tournament is a challenge for program, hardware, and the user.

But if you are up to this challenge, here's the schedule: From 18 to 25 September three preliminary tournaments will be played, each tournament a 13 round Swiss with a time limit of 16 minutes per player and game. The top ten players of each preliminary qualify for the final, which will be played 5th October. All tournaments are played on the Playchess server in tournament room Machine B.

Incidentally, based on an average of the five most widely followed rating lists, on a single core Komodo 8 leads its closest rival (Stockfish 5) by 12 elo points, leads third place Houdini 4 by 16 Elo, and leads the previous Komodo (7) by 38 points. Running on a four core machine, Komodo leads runner-up Stockfish 5 by 37 points, leads third place Houdini 4 by 45 Elo, and leads the previous Komodo 7 by 57 Elo points.
