3/15/2026 – Two million Swedes play chess online, but only a few thousand are involved in traditional chess activities. This new category of players wants to have fun, be entertained and experience chess in a different way than in a quiet playing hall where competition and results are the focus. On 17-18 April 2026, Swedish chess history will be made when Chessparty Stockholm kicks off at Avicii Arena - a two-day festival that will be the country's biggest chess event ever.

"Chess is at a historic moment," says Jesper Hall, one of the people behind the festival. "It is one of the world's oldest games, but at the same time one of the fastest growing cultural phenomena, not least online. Chessparty is an attempt to bring all that energy together in a meeting between chess enthusiasts of all levels."
Chessparty also brings together everyone, from international stars to curious beginners, in a festival format that combines competition, entertainment and learning.

Participants include several of the world's most famous chess players, from chess legends such as Judit Polgár, Magnus Carlsen, who is participating online, Pia Cramling and Nils Grandelius, to the new generation of chess personalities such as Gotham, who will be giving his successful show on Saturday, Andrea Botez and Anna Cramling. In addition, there will be an attempt to set a world record for the largest chess lesson, a chess comedy show with the Swedish comedy group ‘Just Want To Be Cool’ and a family show focusing on chess magic.
Of course, there will also be lots of different tournaments, with ‘Tusenmannaschacket’ (Thousand Man Tournament) as the flagship event. This is a time handicap tournament that gives all players the chance to compete for the first prize of 4,600 Euros.
Chessparty is also being organised in conjunction with Schackfyran, one of the world's largest school chess competitions, and the district final for Stockholm will have 8,000 participating children.
“Bringing together children's chess, amateur players and the international elite in Sweden's largest indoor arena is a new approach, but I really believe in the meeting between online players and traditional chess”, says Jesper Hall.
In this course, you will learn the foundations and key ideas of the Vienna Game and discover a variety of systems that make you extremely difficult to prepare for. The Vienna Game is one of the most underrated openings in modern chess. While the Ruy Lopez and Italian dominate elite practice, the Vienna offers rich, creative play with far less theoretical burden and enormous practical value.

This was described by Sasikiran as one of the best combinations of his career. | Photo: Prajwal Bhat
After 1.d4 d5 many players with White avoid the great amount of theory in the Slav, Semi-Slav, QGA and Orthodox Queen's Gambit and do not therefore play 2.c4. This is not very ambitious, but the painful experience of many chess players has been that the Colle System, the Trompowsky Attack, the Torre Attack and the London System are nevertheless extremely dangerous. Black has to be prepared for each of these openings and IM Valeri Lilov offers you some help with his six instructive videos, in which he demonstrates for each single opening a relevant plan for Black. In addition to the openings mentioned, the Bulgarian trainer also delves into the Catalan, the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit and the Richter-Veresov Opening.
From the 2026 Candidates Tournament, featuring a video review by Dorian Rogozenco, to Jan Werle’s opening video on the French Tarrasch Defence, and Oliver Reeh’s tactical column ‘Top Grandmasters at Work’. Analyses by Giri, So, Wei Yi and many others.
You will learn how Black's dynamic piece activity and structural counterplay more than compensate for White's extra tempo in the colour-reversed setups.
In this course, you’ll learn how to take the initiative against the London and prevent White from comfortably playing their usual system by playing 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bf4 Nh5.
London System Powerbase 2026 is a database and contains in all 11 285 games from Mega 2026 and the Correspondence Database 2026, of which 282 are annotated.
The London System Powerbook 2026 is based on more than 410 000 games or game fragments from different opening moves and ECO codes; what they all have in common is that White plays d4 and Bf4 but does not play c4.
In this course, Grandmaster Elisabeth Pähtz presents the London System, a structured and ambitious approach based on the immediate Bf4, leading to rich and dynamic positions.
Opening videos: Open Spanish (Sipke Ernst) and Classical Sicilian (Nico Zwirs). Endgame Special by Igor Stohl: ‘Short or long side’ – where should the defending king be placed in rook endgames? ‘Lucky bag’ with 35 master analyses.
