The 2004 European Club Cup is being played in Izmir Cesme (Smyrna) in Turkey. A total of 36 men's and 10 women's teams from 22 countries are taking part.

In Round one, which was played on Sunday, the NAO Chess Club beat Matinkylän Shakkikerho 6-0, while Max Ven Ekaterinsk (without Kasparov) beat Rochade Eupen 4½-1½.
