6/22/2023 – "I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you," wrote us ChessBase sysop Angom Nongsha, who had just won the title. Not in chess, but in a related field. "I have emerged victorious in both the Asian Chessboxing Championship and the Chessboxing World Cup 2023!" he wrote. This sport has a long tradition (we have links to many reports). In this article Nongsha describes his success in the most recent events, in his own words.

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I write to inform you about these achievements.

The Asian Chessboxing Championship, held recently in Kolkata, was a highly competitive tournament featuring skilled opponents from across the region. Through dedicated training and strategic gameplay, I was able to conquer formidable adversaries, ultimately claiming the championship title. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, and I am thrilled to have represented our organization on such a prestigious platform.

Additionally, I had the privilege of participating in the Chessboxing World Cup, where I competed against top-notch chessboxing athletes from around the globe. The tournament was a true test of mental acuity and physical prowess, combining the strategic complexities of chess with the intensity of boxing. I am humbled and ecstatic to announce that I emerged as the World Cup champion, securing this prestigious accolade for both myself and our organization.

I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire ChessBase family for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout my journey. The resources, flexibility, and understanding provided by our team have been instrumental in allowing me to pursue my passion and excel in this unique sport. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunities that have been extended to me, and I am proud to represent our organization with these remarkable achievements.

I firmly believe that these victories are a testament to our company's commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, dedication, and support for its employees. It is through this foundation that individuals like myself are empowered to strive for greatness, both inside and outside the workplace.

Together with my trainer

Angom Nongsha Singh started working for ChessBase in November 2017. He writes:

"It all began with a cold message I wrote to Sagar Shah regarding coverage of a local FIDE rated event," he tells us. "Soon after, I joined the team as an editor and was also offered a position in the broadcasting team, as Playchess sysop Holger Lieske was looking for someone from Asia to cover the early morning events. After a week of training from Holger in the winter of 2017, I was good to go. Currently, my team has incredibly supportive colleagues in the form of Holger, Emine Yanik,  and Gaby assmann. It's been six years with ChessBase and I feel blessed to be a part of the team. I am proud to be part of a ChessBase that recognizes and nurtures the diverse talents and interests of its employees."
