Rapid: Rounds 1-3
The Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz, the fourth leg of the 2026 Grand Chess Tour, is being held at the renowned Saint Louis Chess Club from 2 to 6 August.
The tournament uses the familiar rapid and blitz format. It begins with a 10-player single round-robin in rapid chess, with nine rounds played at a time control of 25 minutes plus a 10-second increment from move one. Rapid games count double: a win is worth 2 points, a draw 1 point and a loss 0 points.
The blitz section will then consist of a double round-robin, with 18 rounds across two cycles. The time control is 5 minutes plus a 2-second increment from move one. In the blitz section, a win is worth 1 point and a draw ½ point. The player with the highest combined rapid and blitz score will win the tournament.
August 2-4: Rapid
August 5-6: Blitz
The action kicks off daily at 19.00 CEST, except for the final day (5 July), which starts one hour earlier, at 14.00 CEST.
In this course, we will learn how to identify passively placed pieces in any given situation and how to improve their health by bringing them into active squares.

6/5/2026 – The 14th edition of the Norway Chess super-tournament is taking place from 25 May to 5 June at Deichman Bjorvika in Oslo. An open event and a women's event are being played concurrently with an identical number of players, the same format and an equivalent prize fund. King’s Indian fans who choose the Mar del Plata attack (7...Nc6) against White’s classical system (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.0-0) usually aim for a complex position with mutual attacks on open wings, requiring long-term strategic planning and tactical sharpness in critical moments. Computers often do not know how to handle the arising complex strategic positions, which suits players who like to think on their own instead of memorizing long variations. However, the fashionable Bayonet Attack (9.b4) interferes with Black’s ideas. After Black’s main move 9...Nh5 the positions opens, the lines get forced and computer analysis is important again. But this DVD offers an antidote against White’s Bayonet Attack, namely 9...a5! This move leads to sound positions with very few concrete lines, in which the focus is on strategy not on tactics. Objectively chances are equal but if Black knows what to do things might quickly become dangerous for White.
