Robert Ris' Fast and Furious: A tricky line against the Philidor

by Robert Ris
4/11/2025 – In his new Fast & Furious show, Robert Ris shows a tricky line against the Philidor - and a game in which Black collapsed surprisingly quickly. | Fast & Furious is available on-demand with a ChessBase Premium Account. You can register a Premium account here.

This video course offers you a complete, clear repertoire for Black against the moves 1.Nf3 and 1.c4. The recommended variations are easy to learn and not difficult to remember, but also pose White serious challenges.

Robert Ris: "I have a look at a 21-move miniature Esipenko-Livaic from the Austrian Championships. Against the Philidor opening White opted for the move 5.Bd3, which is much less common than the main lines with 5.Bc4.

Nevertheless, there were some hidden ideas to which Black failed to respond adequately. It was remarkable how quickly Black's position collapsed!"
