Robert Ris' Fast and Furious: A treat for Najdorf fans

by Robert Ris
3/3/2025 – In his new Fast & Furious show, Robert Ris presents a game that might inspire you to pick up the Najdorf or confirm your belief in this opening: a model win by Danish Grandmaster Jonas Buhl Bjerre, played at the Challengers Tournament in Prague. | Fast & Furious is available on-demand with a ChessBase Premium Account. You can register a Premium account here.

This video course offers you a complete, clear repertoire for Black against the moves 1.Nf3 and 1.c4. The recommended variations are easy to learn and not difficult to remember, but also pose White serious challenges.

Robert Ris: "Sicilian Najdorf fans are in for a treat this week! In round 1 of the Prague Challengers, Black managed to win in spectacular fashion (only 29 moves!) in the game Kourkolos-Bjerre. The Danish GM avoided the heavily analysed main lines and opted for the sidelines with 9...h6. An excellent choice, as White failed to find the right plan and Black got a dream Najdorf with a safe king and all his pieces aimed at the white king.

White has just played 20.f4, intending to open the centre. How should Black respond?
