Christmas in Moscow

In 2017, FIDE signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with Sela Sport Company Limited, which operates on behalf the General Sports Association of Saudi Arabia, to organize the "King Salman World Rapid & Blitz Championships". After Riyadh 2017, the tournament was moved in 2018, for various political and logistical reasons, to St Petersburg. This year's edition will take place in Moscow from December 25th to 30th year.

Preliminary schedule

December 25 - Opening Ceremony
December 26 to 28 - Rapid World Championship
December 29 to 30 - Blitz World Championship

The prize fund is once again huge at USD $1 million. Players with an Elo rating above 2750 (in any of the lists in 2019) will receive free full board accommodation.

The name of this tournament sounds like an ill-timed April-fools-joke. Shouldn't there be a limit to how low FIDE is prepared to stoop for money?
