Ramon Mateo wins 3rd International West Open Toulouse

3/9/2008 – He turns 50 this year, and is rated 2484. In this big French Open IM Ramon Mateo made his third GM norm by beating GM Igor Miladinovic, 2602, in the final round. Now Mateo must try to reach a rating of 2500 to become the first grandmaster, ever, to hail from the Dominican Republic. We bring you a tournament report from Colomiers, with games and pictures.

Ramon Mateo wins 3rd International West Open Toulouse

Colomiers is a commune in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. It is the largest suburb of the city of Toulouse, with a population of close to 30,000. The Open Tournament took place from February 25th to March 2nd 2008. It a nine-round Swiss, FIDE-rules, 40 moves/1h 30 + 30 sec then 20 mn + 30 sec.
