Blitz games
Hans Niemann is facing three of the world's strongest players in head-to-head matchups that each includes blitz, rapid and classical games. In the first series, Niemanns' rivals are GMs Anish Giri, Nikita Vitiugov, and Étienne Bacrot. After beating Giri in Utrecht, the US star made his way to London to face Vitiugov, currently ranked first among English chess players.
Schedule
- 14-16 August: 2 classical games per day, starting at 11.00 and 17.00 CEST
- 17 August: 6 rapid games, starting at 19.00 CEST
- 18 August: 12 blitz games, starting at 19.00 CEST
Format
- Classical: 90 minutes + 30-second increments; 3 points per game
- Rapid: 15 minutes + 10-second increments; 2 points per game
- Blitz: 3 minutes + 2-second increments; 1 point per game
Results
- Classical: Niemann 10½ - 7½ Vitiugov
- Rapid: Niemann 8 - 4 Vitiugov
