
Zhu Chen
Zhu Chen (诸宸) became became China's second women's world chess
champion (after Xie Jun) in In 2001. In 1988 she became the first Chinese player
to win an international chess competition: the World Girls Under 12 Championship
in Romania. She won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship in 1994 and 1996.
At the age of 25 she defeated Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia in a tournament
for the 2001/2002 Women's World Chess Championship, by 5-3, becoming the eleventh
champion. Zhu also studied for a master's degree at Tsinghua University. Today
she is married to Qatari Grandmaster Mohamad Al-Modiahki, and now plays for
Qatar.
Oops, there's a "g" in there
Like so many good stories this one has a tiny little flaw: the name of the
new dinosaur, Zhuchengtyrannus magnus, contains an intrusive "g",
which indicates that it was not named after our friend Zhu Chen but after the
city of Zhucheng, which is located in eastern China's Shandong Province. What
a pity...
