
Alexander Onischuk earned the Grandmaster title in 1994 in his native Ukraine and has since built one of the most consistent careers in American chess. He won the U.S. Championship in 2006 and was part of the U.S. team that took first place at the World Team Chess Championship in 2010. Over the years, he has represented the United States in numerous Chess Olympiads, adding to the team's results across multiple editions.
Since 2012, Onischuk has served as head coach of the chess program at Texas Tech University. The team won the Pan-American Chess Championship in 2015 and 2019 and reached the Final Four five years running, a record that speaks for itself.
