Ivan Salgado defeated Jose "Pepe" Cuenca with the black pieces in the final round to secure first place, and the title of Spanish Champion, for the second time. The only other players in striking distance drew their last round games. On top board, Daniel Forcen and David Anton played a back-and-forth battle in which both sides, missed chances, while on board three, Julen Luis Arizmendi's game never strayed far from equality.
The Championship was a Swiss system tournament played over nine rounds. Players received 90 minutes for the whole game plus thirty seconds per move. The championship was organized by the Insular Chess Federation of Gran Canaria, with the collaboration of the Canary and Spanish federations.
