The Ruy Lopez Breyer Variation
Pavel Eljanov explains in depth what Gyula Breyer already saw in 1911 and what became an opening choice of the likes of Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand or Carlsen. The Breyer Variation, which is characterised by the knight retreat to b8.
The format is a nine-round Open Swiss with one game per day beginning at 15:30 CEST (13:30 UT) through October 28th (the final round nine begins at 14:00 CEST / 12:00 UT).
Players receive 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
On this DVD Vladimir Kramnik retraces his career from talented schoolboy to World Champion in 2006. With humour and charm he describes his first successes, what it meant to be part of the Russian Gold Medal team at the Olympiad, and how he undertook the Herculean task of beating his former mentor and teacher Garry Kasparov.
