The opening
The opening ceremony of the 2019 Superbet Rapid & Blitz (November 6th to 10th) was held at the Stejali Country Club last Tuesday afternoon. The day’s activities started off with a press conference which included the guest of honour for the tournament (Former World Number 1 Tennis player Boris Becker) as well as GM’s Fabiano Caruana, Viswanathan Anand and Wesley So.
The drawing of lots was then conducted as part of the opening ceremony before the players participated in a series of short exhibition games against some of the best Romanian junior players and some local corporate executives.
During the opening ceremony, Mr Michael Khodarkovsky (Executive Director of the Grand Chess Tour) announced that Superbet has already committed to hosting a classical tournament as part of the 2020 Grand Chess Tour calendar. The 2020 tournament will be held in May 2020.
