Game of the Week: Svane vs Svane

by Merijn van Delft
4/7/2021 – This week Merijn van Delft shows a duel between two brothers - Rasmus Svane and Frederik Svane. The two faced each other in round three of the German "Kader-Challenge" in Magdeburg and everyone who expected a lifeless draw was pleasantly disappointed. | Merijn's show is available at 16.00 UTC (17:00 CET, 12:00 EDT) and on-demand with a ChessBase Premium Account. Game of the Week #458

At the moment a highly interesting German top tournament takes place in Magdeburg: nine young German top players and nestor Daniel Fridman are battling it out. Vincent Keymer, who is going to play in the Julius Bär Challengers Chess Tour that will begin tomorrow, was replaced last-minute by U16 European Online Champion Frederik Svane and what a great choice that was: https://en.chessbase.com/post/german-top-tournament-starts-with-a-surprise.

In the third round the Svane brothers met, and again the fans were not disappointed. If you expected a peaceful draw you were in for a surprise. German chess is very lively and promising at the moment!

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

When it comes to strategy, one of the key things that chess professionals understand much better than amateur players is the role of the bishop which is the key theme on this video course.
