Game of the Week #432

Merijn van Delft: "After an exciting season of online top level chess, a major over-the-board tournament has started: Altibox Norway Chess. A very exciting line-up and a very exciting first round. While Aronian-Carlsen was a solid draw, in the two other games Black played an impressive positional pawn sacrifice. Lawrence Trent examined Firouzja's win against Duda with you, and I will talk you through Tari-Caruana."

Warming-up question: What would you play here with Black?

Tactic Toolbox Najdorf

The aim of this DVD is to demonstrate the typical tactical themes of the Sicilian Najdorf and to improve your understanding of them, as well as to practice them with the interactive examples.

This week’s show

Sicilian Najdorf 6.Bg5

There are few opening systems which have been undergoing such a fast and furious renaissance as the 6.Bg5 Variation of the Najdorf System. Inspired by Radjabov’s victories over Anand and Karjakin in 2006, a great number of games have been played since then, meaning that the theory has developed enormously. But even before then it stretched to such distant horizons that makes it all the more important to have someone who can explain the ideas which underlie the variations. That is exactly what Alexei Shirov does on his DVD.
