The Chess Olympiad in India has brought a lot of movement into the FIDE world rankings. With their excellent performances, many juniors have moved up the list of the top 100. Arjun Erigaisi, who gained 36 points in August, made one of the biggest jumps. After the Olympiad, where he was the best player of team India A, Erigaisi went on to win the strong Abu Dhabi Open. He is currently playing in the Dubai Open and will probably collect more points there. With an Elo-rating of 2725 Elo, Erigaisi is now number 24 in the world. In the list from August 2022 he was the world's number 48.
One point better than Erigaisi is Gukesh. He was the top point scorer in India's Team B, which narrowly missed out on gold and won bronze. Gukesh gained 27 points and jumped from 38th to 23rd place. Behind Anand, who is currently the world's number 12, Gukesh and Erigasi are now India's number two and three and have pushed Harikrishna and Vidit to fourth and fifth place. But with Nihal and Praggnanandhaa, two strong and young grandmasters are already knocking on the door. The two youngsters have gained 27 and 15 points respectively in the last month and occupy the 63rd and 66th positions in the top 100. Narayanan is another Indian GM in the Top 100, ranked 88th.
However, the biggest surprise of the Chess Olympiad was the young team from Uzbekistan which won gold. Top board was World Rapid Champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who gained 36 points and is now 30th in world rankings and has a rating of 2713.
The only active player in the top ten who didn't suffer a loss is Anish Giri who won 4 points. Fabiano Caruana lost 18 points and fell from fifth to ninth place. Magnus Carlsen had a very good result at the Chess Olympiad, but still suffered a small loss because of the low rating of his opponents.
Master Class Vol.8 - Magnus Carlsen 2nd Edition
Let our authors show you how Carlsen tailored his openings to be able to outplay his opponents strategically in the middlegame or to obtain an enduring advantage into the endgame.

Little has changed at the absolute top of the women's world rankings because Russia was not allowed to take part in the Chess Olympiad and China refrained from participating. Anna and Mariya Muzychuk from Ukraine won gold with their team, but still lost points and places. Zhansaya Abdumalik from Kazakhstan gained 8 points and passed the 2500 mark. The 15-year-old Indian Savitha Shri B gained the most points of the women's top 100 players. With a plus of 61 points she moved up to place 32.

In the girls' list Zhu Jiner continues to lead, though she hasn't played in Augsut. With Savitha Shri, who is now third behind Kazakhstan's Bibisara Assaubayeva, and Vantika Agrawal, who is on place 6 in the list, up-and-coming players from India have also moved up.
Another big winner is Eline Roebers of the Netherlands: She gained 51 points and is now 9th on the list. At the European Women's Championship that just came to an end she made a WGM-norm. However, the European Women's Championship will only be rated in the next list.
