EURO 2007: Tatiana Kosintseva scores 6/6 in the womens

4/8/2007 – After leading with 4.5 in the first five rounds young Ukrainian grandmaster Andrei Volokitin drew his round six games and was promptly caught by four colleagues. In the women's section IM Tatiana Kosintseva, who will turn 21 next Wednesday, has won all six games to lead the field by a full point. We bring you the standings and games.

Eighth European Chess Championship in Dresden

The 8th Individual European Chess Championships (EURO 2007) is taking place from April 2nd to 16th, 2007 in Dresden, Germany in the International Congress Center. The event is an 11 round Swiss, with time controls set at 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

After five rounds the young Ukrainian grandmaster Andrei Volokitin was leading the field of almost four hundred players with a score of 4.5/5 points. In round six he drew with the black pieces against Zoltan Almasi of Hungary. At the same time four grandmasters from the follow-up group won their games and joined Volokitin in shared first. All five have performance ratings of around 2800.

The Kosintseva sisters Tatiana and Nadezhda

In the women's section Russian IM Tatiana Kosintseva, who will turn 21 next Wednesday, has won all her games so far, and leads the field by a full point. She is followed by her sister Nadezhda, IM Ekaterina Atalik of Turkey and Eva Moser of Austria. German star Elisabeth Pähtz, who suffered a shock loss in round one, has worked her way up to 4.5/6 points, as has Kateryna Lahno, the 17-year-old talent from Ukraine.
