Dilijan WGP R10: Three wins, stiff opposition

6/28/2013 – The tournament leaders Koneru Humpy and Anna Muzychuk are facing stiff resistance from their colleagues and had to concede their third draws in a row. Women's world champion Anna Ushenina scored her first win, as did Elina Danielian, while Nana Dzagnidze kept her third place with a win over Viktorija Cmilyte. The second event of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix cycle 2013-2014 is taking place from June 16th to 28th in Dilijan, Armenia. Twelve players, with the average elo of 2505, are competing in a round robin tournament. The event is organized by the Armenian Chess Federation & FIDE. The Grand Prix cycle will produce the participants for the Women’s World Championship 2015.

The two leaders of the Women's Grand Prix tournament, Humpy Koneru and Anna Muzychuk, are facing stiff opposition in the last few rounds. Today they both drew again. This was the fourth draw in a row for both players.

The short notes on the games are provided by IM Norayr Kalantaryan (above left, doing live commentary of the Dilijan Grand Prix with FIDE CEO Geoffrey Borg). Norayr won his IM title in 1995 and was the winner of European Chess Club Cup in composition of Yerevan City in the same year. He was head coach of the Armenian Women Team from 1998 to 2000, and has been a FIDE Arbiter since 2008. You can follow his live commentary of the games here.
