Candidates 2018 LIVE - Caruana wins!

by ChessBase
3/27/2018 – Sergey Karjkin didn't succeed in posing serious problems for Ding Liren and after, what he called, a "terrible blunder", he had to scramble to save a draw. That left Caruana in great shape to win the tournament. Mamedyarov struggled to find winning chances with black against Kramnik, but in the end that game ended drawn as well. Caruana, needing only a draw, was in command against Grischuk and even won the game to finish in clear first by a full point! | Photo and drawings by World Chess

this whole competition is senseless, as Carlsen just is the best.

Nothing to do...

nobody can beat him
lajosarpad lajosarpad 3/19/2018 01:32
I have read Rijslaav's comments and I do not really know what the problem is: lengthy games, or not playing to the end...

full analysis of round 7 Aronian-Caruana.
Caruana defended very well and increased its lead.
27..gh5 was better for Black. after 27..e5, White could still stay in the game with 32 Qh4. Once again, Aronian cannot sustain pressure of a candidate tournament. Mamedyarov and Caruana can deliver even in tense games, but their game will be super important to find out who wins. Shak still has chances if he beats Caruana in the tournament, which is a real possibility.

IMO this has been one of the most exciting competitions in recent history. The number of amazing games so far in such an important tournament. I would have thought that the games overall would have been played a lot more safely

That avatar of rijslaav, is that Don Quixote and Sancho Panza?
Keith Homeyard Keith Homeyard 3/18/2018 08:12
Pardon my lazy typing of rijlaav instead of rijslaav.
Keith Homeyard Keith Homeyard 3/18/2018 08:10
rijlaav seems a complete idiot! In chess as in any sport the world champion is slightly better but his near rivals aren't far behind.
adbennet adbennet 3/17/2018 02:10
@fgkdjlkag - That’s an easy one. Just rule that the first player to repeat a position loses. Endgame theory would be turned on its head, but rijslaav will be happy.
AIekhine AIekhine 3/17/2018 05:01
The only boring thing is the immature and ignorant commentary of rijslaav. He probably complains when Ivanchuk makes a draw.
Steven Gerrard Steven Gerrard 3/16/2018 10:48
The inevitable whining about draws, even though first round of only draws, where two of these efforts were made by players to win. Also with a leader on +2, it doesn't make competive sense for the chasing pack to play for draws anymore, and if they do they won't win the event.
fgkdjlkag fgkdjlkag 3/16/2018 04:54
@rijslaav, you have to allow 3-fold repetition draw at least. Are the players going to keep repeating moves for an hour? Would you require that players not be allowed to repeat a position? That would dramatically change the game.

@ludovicus, I also could not maximize the screen. Is there a solution for it? I ended up watching the broadcast elsewhere.

Kramnik has won me over with his fighting spirit, win or lose. He has a good chance to win this thing, yes, the old man does. Some of the other players seem tentative. The guy who is posting criticism of draws is a little over the top and repetitive, but his underlying point cannot be dismissed. In round one, Ding and Aronian agree to a draw in such a position on the 21st move?? Neither of these guys deserve to face MC for the title with spirit like that, and there’s no way they’ll beat a fighter like Magnus if they do win the Candidates. Kramnik has a punchers chance, as they say in the boxing game.

"In Kramnik-Caruana 43. Be2 seemed to be a good idea to me, but was not discussed by Polgár and Trent, nor by Kramnik and Caruana. Is this an obviously bad move?" I'm thinking that they didn't like 43... Kc6.

I'm watching the live broadcast with Judit Polar but today I can't figure out how to make it full screen. And also I can't find the German button. Both of these were available in round 3?
Petrarlsen Petrarlsen 3/12/2018 10:50
@ Bobbyfozz : I fully agree...
Bobbyfozz Bobbyfozz 3/12/2018 09:39
rijslaav himself is boring with his total lack of understanding about top chess, and complaining about others with posts after posts, repeating himself.
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 08:19
This game cannot carry draws on its back anymore. No more 3 fold repetitions, perpetual, stalemates, handshake draws, and EVEN resignation. Just make rules for those disgraceful things to do not apply. These are all doable things. No football team can resign, for instances. Chess should be played TO THE END. With less time for the whole game, of course. All those centuries and the game is still this S*T because a lot is said but nothing is done. Lets PLEASE change this game. Now.
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 08:09
Total shame on most of those so-called top players (with a few exceptions, of course).
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 08:02
How come MC humiliates all these guys on the chess board? He plays online as well and destroys the opposition (even those who selfname themselves as the best blitz of bullet players). Like a JOKE. How come a worldwide loved and played sport like chess has got ONLY ONE (REAL) player?
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 07:59
What a HORRIBLE harvest of chess players is these last years. They ONLY have a huge computer prep and thats it. Besides Maguns Carlsen, THERE IS NO ONE, PERIOD, to play really CHESS. They all get CRUSHED.
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 07:54
Of course, there are some guys that count: ANAND, Grischuk, MVL.
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 07:51
If every game was played by MC than I wouldn't mind watching for 7 hours. But seriously, EVEN IN THE CANDIDATES, who can we watch? Alright, Kramnik is playing great (and I am a big fan of his) but to say the truth the games are all boring. Lengthy. These are all the best payers in the world and I dont feel like watching the matches. Oh, Shak is an exciting attacking player, Aronian is also great, blabla, blablablabla, and even so it is bad. Caruana was a nice promise but went down into the same bag as the others. I hate to say but theres only MC. With his WILL TO WIN. Playing to the very end. Refusing DRAW OFFERS (even in a worse position sometimes).
rijslaav rijslaav 3/12/2018 07:36
Guys, it is time classical chess alignes itself with the evolution of human thinking and get less time on the clock: 90min (40 moves) + 20min (rest of the game) + 30sec increment from move 1 is MORE than enough.
banem banem 3/12/2018 06:02
KRAMNIK IMMORTAL ! ! ! Congratulations Vlad on the most beautiful game I have ever watched live
flachspieler flachspieler 3/12/2018 12:47
Yes, a very good judgement by Grischuk. That is the
difference between hunan (and perhaps Alpha Zero)
and computer chess.
banem banem 3/11/2018 11:38
Comment of the year by Grischuk on his game vs So: I didn't calculate at all. I mean, I have all pieces in attack, and he defends with one bishop, if there is no mate, I just quit chess.
