Breakthrough performance by Pocket Fritz 4 in Buenos Aires

by ChessBase
8/27/2009 – The Mercosur Cup in Argentina is unusual since it is one of the few remaining chess tournaments where a computer is allowed to compete. Not a full quad or oct monster, but the handheld Pocket PC. Last year Pocket Fritz 3 won comfortably, and this year it was Pocket Fritz 4 based on the new Hiarcs 13.0 engine. You don't want to know what the program did in Buenos Aires. Or do you?

Pocket Fritz 3

PocketFritz 3 is the ultimate mobile chess companion, ready to play anywhere and anytime. It may be small in size, but its playing strength is gigantic. Its brand-new chess engine, developed by Mark Uniacke, has a well-balanced positional style with fi rst-class tactical strength. PocketFritz 3 is considerably stronger than its predecessor – the estimated playing strength is 2650 Elo! You can run Pocket Fritz 3 in English, Spanish, Russian, and German.

PocketFritz 3 gives you direct access to the new high-speed online database of games, containing over four million games, developed by ChessBase. Any search will be answered instantly by the ChessBase server, which is kept up-to-date on a weekly basis. You can retrieve all games in which the current position occurred, or review the latest ideas in openings theory, with full statistical information on all moves that can be played and their chances of success.

The improved and enhanced analysis mode of PocketFritz 3 delivers full information on the search, like depth, evaluation and main line. But it can also display multiple lines (best, next best, etc.). You can also install other chess engines, apart from Hiarcs and Crafty, which are not part of the PocketFritz 3 package but will be offered for download. With it you get a tournament tested openings book, over 300 annotated games in PGN format, and search functions for players, tournaments, ECO openings codes and the current board position.

The design, operation and general usability of PocketFritz 3 is superb – after all we are dealing with the younger brother of the world’s finest chess program Fritz. Beautiful piece sets, multiple screen layouts, optimised for different functions, easy entry of moves and comments, display of opening names, help from the built-in chess coach, display of threats, an integrated training system for openings, tactics and endgames – this is what you get with the new program. And some icing on the cake: twelve hours of chess training in the Chess Media Format with audio commentary by GM Daniel King an IM Andrew Martin. PocketFritz3 guarantees fun and enjoyment, genuine chess training and professional online access, anywhere and anytime.
