Bilbao: Press conference and drawing of lots

7/13/2016 – Today, 16.00 CEST the first round of the IX Bilbao Chess Masters Final begins, yesterday the opening ceremony took place. The players were presented to the press and the pairings were drawn. In round one Sergey Karjakin plays against Wesley So, Anish Giri faces Wei Yi and Magnus Carlsen plays against Hikaru Nakamura. The IX Bilbao Chess Masters Final

The introduction of the players was presided by the first deputy mayor, Ricardo Barkala, and the Provincial Councillor for Economic and Territorial Development, Imanol Pradales, who represented the Provincial Council of Biscay. They wished all players luck and fighting spirit to help to consolidate the Bilbao tournament as one of the major events of the international chess calendar.

The Bilbao Masters is a double-round robin tournament and the players are not allowed to propose a draw ("Bilbao-Rules")

Parallel to the "Masters" the Ville de Bilbao Open takes place for which 140 players have registered.

The tournament is supported by the city of Bilbao and the province of Bizkaia. Tournament organiser is the Bilbao chess club "E4."

To reduce the preparations even in round robin one could have pairings each day! So in order the players and public will not know when players gonna meet. Think it would make games more intresting. Pairings could even be done 5 min Before game ;-)
