The Belt and Road Women's Chess Festival has started in Shaoxing

7/24/2024 – On 17 July, the fifth edition of the Belt and Road Women's Chess Festival began in Shaoxing, Shanxi Province, China. Tan Zhngyi won a rapid chess tournament, with Stavroula Tsolakidou and Antoaneta tying for second place. Tan Zhongyi wins rapid tournament

The Chinese Chess Federation and the city of Shaoxing, Shanxi Province, are currently organising the 5th Belt and Road Women's Chess Festival. From 17 to 22 July, a rapid chess tournament was held with 20 top female players. 

The winner after nine rounds of the Swiss open was former world champion and current challenger for the crown Tang Zongyi (6½ points).

Stavroula Tsolakidou and Antoaneta Stefanova finished half a point behind the winner. Ju Wenjun grabbed sole fourth place.

Belt and Road Open

From 23 July (1st round) to 2 August (9th and final round), the 5th Belt and Road International Open for Women is taking place. The event has a total prize fund of 119,000 US dollars. The winner will receive 40,000 US dollars and the runner-up 20,000 US dollars.

The venue is the Xianheng Hotel in Shaoxing, Shanxi Province.
