Every chess player want to ensure victory in final round so that they can go home with a good memory

I have seen many International Open Tournaments but in the final round always see the top ten boards drawing most of their games with few exceptions. Here, on the contrary, eight of the top ten boards ended in decisive games, throwing the predictions of the pundits up in the air.

Winner grandmaster Andrey Baryshpolets of Ukraine. After his victory,
he said, "I am very happy, and this is very good for me. My next tournament
is Cappelle-la-Grande and I hope I will continue with my current form."

GM Ivan Popov of Russia also had to work hard but eventually prevailed
over Van Huy Nguyen of Vietnam. It is never easy to finish second or joint
first in a GM open when you start with a first round loss, "I am very happy
and satisfied with my second place", Popov said

GM Alberto David of Italy won his last three games in a row, including a victory over Mikhail
Mozharov of Russia in round ten and finished third on tiebreak

How would you feel after being the tournament leader most of the time, including just before
the final round, but finishing only fourth because of a last round loss? It was a tough final day
as overnight sole leader Mikhail Mozharov of Russia was outdone by David, who won a fine
game with the black pieces. “I am very disappointed since I played really well in the tournament
but just couldn’t finish well."

Deepan Challravarthy had the consolation of finishing as the best performing Indian as he
finished tenth with 7.0/10 despite losing the last round.

Top seed Abhijeet Gupta won his last round game against Himal Gusain to end eleventh on 7.0/10.
After a slump midway in the tournament Gupta recovered a little to win the last three rounds.

24-year-old WIM Irina Andrenko from Ukraine scored 5.0/10

IM Himanshu Sharma finished in 35th with 6.0/10

WGM Swathi Ghate (2188) finished with 6.0/10 and a 2361 performance, earning 46 Elo

GM Abhijit Kunte finished in fourteenth place

IM N Srinath in deep thought, one of the leaders in the seventh round,
could not keep the momentum and finished 20th

The norms

As many as five International Master norms were secured in the tournament
and the biggest gainer was C R G Krishna who became an International Master
after his performance here.

Among the other norms was one by Aniruddha Deshpandey rated only 2157 who scored 5.5/10

Abhishek Kelkar also earned an IM norm for his 6.0/10

Ravi Teja, 22 years old, also scored 6.0/10 and earned an IM norm

Finally, M Kunal (2336) scored 5.5/10 against six grandmasters and one international master for an IM norm

The prize winners
