FRITZ is more than just a chess engine – it’s a training revolution! Whether you’re taking your first steps into the world of club chess, or already playing at a tournament level: with FRITZ, you can train more efficiently, intelligently and with a more personalised approach than ever before.

As a technology evangelist and a lifelong chess enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by how the 64 squares intersect with the modern world! Over the years, my camera has taken me to the quiet, tension-filled halls of Tata Steel Kolkata, the Chennai Grandmaster events, and the Chess Olympiads, where silence is strictly enforced and the drama unfolds entirely in the minds of the players.

But stepping into the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the inaugural "Checkmate: USA v. India" exhibition felt like stepping into an alternate universe.

My involvement began with a complete twist of fate. Salim, who organized the event, pulled me aside to share a bit of a crisis: the official photographer hadn't shown up. When he asked if I could step in, capture the night, and share my work with them, I was absolutely delighted. Just like that, I became the main – and only – photographer for a truly historic night!

Gone were the hushed tones and the silent over-the-board calculations. In their place: roaring crowds, team jerseys, high-fives down the entrance tunnel, and a palpable, electric energy that you usually only feel at a cricket stadium or a heavyweight boxing match. The organizers threw out the traditional rulebook - no draw offers, no resignations, and a brutal time control that only gave players a one-second increment after they dropped below a minute on the clock.

With a powerhouse Team India facing off against a stacked Team USA, the stage was set for a clash of generations, styles, and egos. I was right there on the floor with my brand-new Canon EOS R6 Mark 2, capturing a night where the boundaries of chess were pushed to their absolute limits. What culminated in a stunning 5-0 clean sweep for Team USA was not just a victory on the board, but a glimpse into the wild, unpredictable future of chess as a spectator sport.

Here is the story of that unforgettable night, told through the raw emotions and chaotic brilliance frozen in my lens! Note that you can click the pictures to enlarge them.
