Before the eleventh and final round of the European Women's Championship in Mamaia, Romania, Anna Ushenina was sole leader with 8.0/10. Half a point behind followed Lilit Mkrtchian, Sabrina Vega and Elisabeth Pähtz. Ushenina played against Mkrtchian and with a win against Ushenina Mkrtchian could have entertained hopes to become new European Women's Champion but would also have given Elisabeth Pähtz and Sabrina Vega chances to win the title.

Lilit Mkrtchian decided to play it safe and was content with a quick draw. This draw guaranteed Ushenina the title because she was certain to have the best tie-break and there was no play-off in case of a tie.

Thus, Sabrina Vega and Elisabeth Pähtz were fighting for second place and the 9,000 Euros that came with it. After a tense game Vega won.

Bronze went to Antoaneta Stefanova who won with White against Natalija Pogonina.
