Karsten Müller is considered to be one of the greatest endgame experts in the world. His books on the endgame - among them "Fundamentals of Chess Endings", co-authored with Frank Lamprecht, that helped to improve Magnus Carlsen's endgame knowledge - and his endgame columns for the ChessCafe website and the ChessBase Magazine helped to establish and to confirm this reputation. Karsten's Fritztrainer DVDs on the endgame are bestsellers. The mathematician with a PhD lives in Hamburg, and for more than 25 years he has been scoring points for the Hamburger Schachklub (HSK) in the Bundesliga.

This game play few months ago. Its 1.b4! cxb4 2.Bb3 and black position is lost.

Nice maneuver 57. Bd1-b3!, sealing in Black's bishop.
These maneuvers are mini-patterns that a player perceives more readily after seeing a few times and internalizing.
I'd like to see a chess book devoted to 100 clever maneuvers or mini-patterns. Fortress creation is a related area of interesting patterns.

Terminology: Pieces have 'color', white or black. But squares have 'shade', light or dark. This was an "opposite-shade" bishops ending, not "opposite-color".
