Round 9
The Uzbekistan Chess Federation is organizing the UzChess Cup for the second time. Taking place from June 19 to 27 in Tashkent, it is a chess festival comprising three invitational tournaments—Masters, Challengers, and Futures—as well as an Open.
The Masters tournament is exceptionally strong. Four of Uzbekistan’s top five players will take on six international elite players. The top seeds are Arjun Erigaisi and Nodirbek Abdusattorov, ranked third and sixth in the FIDE world rankings for June. Five other participants are rated above 2700 Elo.
Inspired by the Tata Steel tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Challengers (B-group) features a mix of seasoned veterans, rising talents, and a strong female player. The top seed is former world-class player and FIDE World Championship runner-up Vassily Ivanchuk.
