2/11/2021 – 25 years ago, on February 10, 1996, Deep Blue became the first chess computer to beat a reigning World Champion in a game under tournament conditions. This happened in the first Kasparov vs Deep Blue match, the first big "Man vs Machine" match. Despite his loss in the first game Kasparov still won the match 4-2, but one year later, 1997, he lost the rematch against Deep Blue.

12/27/2020 – She was a remarkable lady: an Armenian from Karabakh, living in Azerbaijan. After the early death of her husband she brought up her son alone – and what a job she did! She recognized his talent at an early age and quit her job to devote herself completely to the task of helping him become World Chess Champion. She passed on Christmas day 2020, and her son Garry Kasparov writes: "I am bereft. She was my role model, my greatest champion, my wise counsel, and the strongest person I will ever know."

11/6/2020 – After twenty years as the world’s highest-rated player, Garry Kasparov decided to quit chess and go into politics in March 2005. His last event was the now legendary Linares Tournament. Kasparov had a one-point lead over Veselin Topalov going into their direct encounter in the last round — Topalov won that game, but Kasparov nonetheless won the tournament, as he had a better tiebreak score (more wins with black). | Photos: Nadja Wittmann
